SPARC Committee Meeting
Minutes - August 2002
Meeting date: August
1, 2002
Attendees:
Charles Pfeiffer (Tek Systems), Steve Alexander (Circuit City), Wayne Diehl (Sun), Joe McFadden (Sun)
Purpose:
Monthly SPARC committee Meeting
Summary of decisions, discussions, and action items:
- The July meeting covering Solaris 9 had approx. 25 attendees. Almost half of those
people who RSVPd did not attend, but there were several first time attendees.
- Wayne reported that there has been nearly 75% turnover in attendees in the past
year. This shows the viability of the group to solicit new members.
- There were some logistical issues with the meeting location, but it seemed to be
an internal GEFA communications issue and hightened security at GEFA. Steve will ask
Jay to see what we can do for future meetings to alieviate his running a shuttle
to the lobby.
- Going forward, all meetings held at GEFA require the GEFA contractor to provide
refreshments. The cost is very reasonable ($2.50/person) and the benefits
include not having to shop for and carry food and drinks to the facility.
We will commit to 30 people per meeting at a cost of $75 to be paid by the sponsor.
- The topic for the September 5th meeting will be disaster recovery. StorNet from
Williamsburg will be providing a speaker, and will sponsor the meeting. Charles
referred the company; Steve will coordinate with StorNet.
- Suggestions for future meetings from the evaluation forms included server
consolidation, upgrades, disaster recovery and remote management. Many of
these have been recently covered. We should repeat topics no more than annually
unless technology has sufficiently changed. These topics will all be visited
or revisited soon.
- After the reduced summer schedule, the general membership meetings are back to
the first Thursday of each month starting September 5th, followed in one week by
the Steering Committee meetings at the Sun office.
- Steve will post these minutes on the web site.
Regards,
Steve
