December's Topic: Sun Fire Blade and Rack Server Technology

This presentation will focus on Sun's blade and rack server technology including Sun's newest Intel Xeon-based offerings, comparing and contrasting the technology with other vendors and market trends. Our presenter, Chuck Otts, will target this technical discussion to include an overview of:

• Sun's x64 architecture, chassis design, power/cooling advantages, independent and open I/O architecture in blade systems
• Unique design points for performance, multiple chip architecture support, capacity, integrated lights-out management and I/O throughput
• New Sun Fire X4150 and X4450 Intel Xeon servers with large disk capacities in 1RU configuration and 2RU, four processor design advantages

Chuck Otts is a Senior Product Strategist for Sun's x86 and Blade products. A 14 year Sun employee, Chuck has been focused on technical sales, Sun ONE product sales, Java technology and business development with a concentration on government business with Civilian, DoD, and Intelligence customers. In the early days at Sun, Chuck was a Solaris Migration boss helping customers move from Berkeley Unix to System V Unix. Before coming to Sun Microsystems, Chuck spent 10 years as a Member of the Technical Staff at TRW Space and Technology Group building Command and Control systems for NATO and the US Government.

This will be the last Richmond SPARC meeting of 2007. We will be awarding the Loyalty Program gifts to our winners (those who attended four or more meetings this year).

LOCATION: Genworth Financial in Building 4 (old 6630 West Broad St.) on the sixth floor (Boundaryless Room).  Genworth Financial is located on West Broad Street in the Brookfield Office Park. After turning at the light on Broad Street and entering the Brookfield Complex...you should stay in the left lane and turn left at the stop sign.  Follow the road around past the Sheraton to Building 4 toward the back of the campus. Turn left for Visitor Parking.  Additional parking is located on the far side of the building as well.  Please enter at the front main entrance.
