March's Topic:
The OpenSolaris Project

Our speaker, Harry Foxwell, Ph.D., will present the OpenSolaris Project, an open source community and a place for collaboration and conversation around OpenSolaris technology. The community represents a wide variety of people around the world including system administrators, developers, educators, students and new users. Harry will review the OpenSolaris Project and the Solaris Express Developer Edition which are free downloads of coming Solaris technologies. New features of commercial Solaris releases appear first in the Solaris Express and OpenSolaris distributions and provide opportunities to try leading edge features such as BrandZ ( Linux Containers) and Xen virtualization.

The OpenSolaris source code is already cutting edge, but innovation happens everywhere so we welcome your involvement and participation.

Harry has presented to Richmond SPARC in the past and always provides a lively discussion as well as an in-depth view of Solaris. Harry Foxwell is a Senior System Engineer for Sun Microsystems' Government division in the Washington DC area, where he is responsible for solutions consulting and customer education on Solaris, Linux, and Grid technologies.
