May's Topic: Solaris Live Upgrade: Tutorial and Demonstration
Cecil Jacobs will present a tutorial on this valuable, time saving tool and actually demonstrate a Live Upgrade from Solaris 8 to Solaris 9.
Solaris Live Upgrade significantly reduces the downtime associated with an operating system upgrade or maintenance. It enables the Solaris Operating Systems to continue to run while an administrator upgrades to the latest release of the Operating System, applies patches or does routine maintenance on the inactive or duplicate boot environment. When satisfied with the process, the administrator simply reboots the system to run the latest or updated operating environment.
* Solaris Live Upgrade technology reduces the usual service outage typically associated with an operating system upgrade.
* Solaris Live Upgrade 2.0 integration with Web Start Flash technology enables system administrators to install a complete pre-tested, pre-configured system image rapidly on a new inactive boot environment while the production boot environment is fully operational.
* Solaris Live Upgrade supports fallback to previous environment in case of failure with the upgraded environment. Administrators can reload their previous environments and with a simple reboot if necessary.
Cecil Jacobs has 19 years of experience in the computer industry with background in structured programming for the USAF, followed by 7 years of hand-on field experience with Sun and other Unix solutions for military, government and commercial customers. Cecil has been with Sun for 5 years with duties ranging from pre-sales systems engineering to one of 50 Data Management Ambassadors.
The Sun user community in Richmond is growing, and you are an important part of
it! We look forward to your participation in the User's Group and are confident
that you will find it technically enriching. Bring an associate. Just RSVP
