SPARC Committee Meeting Minutes - November 2001

November 15, 2001

Attendees:

Steve Alexander (Circuit City), Joe McFadden (Sun), Wayne Diehl (Sun), Shane Ward (Dataline), Steve Woods (Strategic Technologies), Lee Stocks (Strategic Technologies)

Purpose:

Monthly SPARC committee Meeting

Summary of decisions, discussions, and action items:

1. The December meeting will have a holiday theme and will be held on December 6th, 2001 from 4:00 until 7:00 at Sun's Glen Allen (Innsbrook) office. There is no featured speaker or topic at this social event.

2. Wayne will talk to James River Technical about door prizes for the December meeting, as well as other resellers to assist with food.

3. Strategic Technologies will provide beer and wine for the December meeting.

4. Wayne suggested and the committee agreed that Sun could extend invitations to various partners such as Veritas, Oracle, and others for the December meeting.

5. The January meeting will be sponsored by Sun, and will be held on the second Thursday, January 10th. The topic will be the Sun "Vision" for the future and Sun will provide the speaker. Unless there is a scheduling conflict, we will hold the January meeting at GE Capital.

6. Wayne discussed the expectation that was previously presented to the reseller community of having more technical than sales staff at the general membership meetings. This is to encourage an exchange of technical information over sales information. Sun will again communicate this to resellers in hopes of getting more technical staff involvement.

7. The topic of increasing the general membership through increasing the mailing list alias was discussed. An informal goal of a 50% increase in names is desired. The alias list was passed around and several names were added to the list. Committee members will forward any further additions to Jay Campbell for addition. Steve Woods suggested having a giveaway to the general membership for additional names to be added. No plans were made, but it was agreed that this could be discussed at a future meeting based on attendance during December and January meetings.

8. A brief discussion was held on alternate sites for future meetings, including a possible "lunch and learn" meeting.

9. Jay will be asked to post these minutes on the web site.

Regards,
Steve
