SPARC Committee Meeting Minutes - November 2002
Meeting date: November 14, 2002
Attendees:
Alan Williams (Sentraliant), Rick Jones, Steve Alexander (Circuit City),
Jay Campbell (GEFA), Joe McFadden (Sun), and Wayne Diehl (Sun - via conference call)
Purpose:
Monthly SPARC committee Meeting
Summary of decisions, discussions, and action items:
- Welcome to Rick Jones as a new attendee at the steering committee - we
thank him for his participation.
- The October meeting covering Linux and the LX-50 product line was well
attended, with approximately 30 attendees. The guards were allowing those
on the list to go to the room unescorted.
- Thanks to Sun for sponsoring the October meeting.
- The annual Holiday Party will be held on December 5th, pending confirmation
from Joe and Wayne that this date works. The party will be held at the Sun
office in Innsbrook, and will be from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.
- Joe and Wayne will solicit funds from Sun for the Holiday Party, and will
purchase the food and beverages as well. Vendors will be contacted to see if
they can provide giveaways for the party.
- Steve will mock up an invitation based on last year's December newsletter,
and will send that via email ASAP.
- There will be no committee meeting in December.
- Wayne proposed that Brian Wong, a Sun Distinguished Engineer, be invited to
speak at the January general meeting. Brian has written several books and lives
in Charlottesville. An alternate is Bob Snead from Sun, also a Sun Distinguished
Engineer, who focuses on Solaris tuning and performance management. If Bob is not
needed for this month, he will be asked about speaking in an upcoming meeting.
- Other topics of interest include Sun direction and Sun products, as well as the
Blade products. It was suggested that the Feb. topic be workgroup computing.
- Steve will post these minutes on the web site.
Regards,
Steve
