October's Topic:
Sun's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ( joint development with VMWare )

Did you know that Sun grew it's thin client shipments three times faster than the overall market last quarter? There's a reason for that. The accelerated adoption of server virtualization has heightened awareness of the benefits of consolidating servers and IP in the datacenter and has powered the way toward the adoption of a hosted and virtualized desktop model. With more and more customers looking for desktop virtualization solutions and ways to reduce desktop expenditures, Sun and VMware have teamed to help solve the desktop equation with the 'Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ( VDI ) software.

If your business is struggling with security issues and the costs associated with maintaining applications on desktops and laptops and you'd like to see how VMware and Sun are helping solve these problems, our presenter, Cecil Jacobs, will review the functionality and benefits of the VDI blueprint which includes:
Cecil Jacobs, an Engagement Architect in the Richmond office, has presented to Richmond SPARC in the past and always provides a lively discussion as well as an in-depth technical perspective to his presentations. We are pleased to have Cecil return to the podium for this meeting as his presentations are always very useful and enlightening. Cecil has 20 years of experience in the computer industry and his background includes structured programming for the USAF at Langley AFB followed 8 years of field experience installing, integrating, and maintaining Sun and other UNIX solutions in the government and commercial sectors. He was a Sun Education Partner instructor for over 6 years, and joined Sun in 1999 to become a pre-sales systems engineer.

Sun Microsystems will continue to sponsor a "Loyalty Program" for regular attendees of SPARC. Loyal attendees, coming to four or more meetings, will receive a Premium Award at year end. Be sure to get off to a good start by coming to our first meeting of 2007!
