September's Topic: Improving Storage Utilization through Thin Provisioning and Data De-duplication

Learn to use ZFS to improve utilization of high-cost disk. We will provide a glimpse into how the introduction of the ZIL and L2ARC makes the case for keeping Solid State Disk (SSD) drives in the server.

Data De-Duplication is a key technology in the ongoing battle to manage overwhelming amounts of annual data growth. Learn how this technology can be applied to enterprise backups in order to improve your data centers manageability and recoverability. We will be discussing Symantec's Pure Disk as an example of this technology.

Our speakers are Cecil Jacobs and Chris Williams from Sun. The Sun User's Group is very familiar with Cecil's "meaty" presentations from earlier sessions. Chris Williams recently joined Sun as a storage specialist. He was previously with Capital One.

LOCATION: Genworth Financial in Building 4 (old 6630 West Broad St.) on the first floor (The Forum).  Genworth Financial is located on West Broad Street in the Brookfield Office Park. After turning at the light on Broad Street and entering the Brookfield Complex...you should stay in the left lane and turn left at the stop sign.  Follow the road around past the Sheraton to Building 4 toward the back of the campus. Turn left for Visitor Parking.  Additional parking is located on the far side of the building as well.  Please enter at the front main entrance.
